Minister of Education caricature

The Belgian Minister of Education did not do very well. He had to sit
in the corner with donkey ears, like in the old days :-)

The idea behind the assignment was simple, but the head turned out to be very difficult for me.

I knew the minister's features well, but I couldn't make a real caricature of him.
Either he didn't look like it, or he wasn't caricatured enough.

I made a lot of sketches, from different angles, from different photos...
Much more than I'm showing here.

Until I got pretty desperate and frustrated :-)

My mind eventually searched for emergency solutions that I had never needed before…

Finally, I cut up a photocopy of a photo and made a collage of it which I then drew over!

Also clearly visible here on my color test...

But in the end I liked the result.
And the posters on the classroom walls gave me a lot of painting pleasure!

This was the only time I had to use this trick to meet my deadline.
But my clients never knew how stressful it had been for me this time.
All's well that ends well, doesn't it? :-)
